Licensed Practical Nurse - Emergency Room Evenings
Full Time - Evenings
Position summary: Assists with providing nursing care of sick and injured patients who present to the ED, in support of the medical team as directed by the ED physician and within the scope of the Missouri Nurse Practice Act. Treatments will be administered pursuant to objectives, goals, policies, and the philosophy of the ED department and the hospital.
General purpose: Provides assistance with patient care in coordination with the ED and ancillary staff
Role qualifications:
Education
- Graduate of accredited school of practical nursing
Experience
- Emergency Medical experience preferred, but not required
Licenses/Certificate
- Current Missouri State Licensure
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), preferred, but not required
Position responsibilities:
Standards of Nursing Practice:
- Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the pediatric, adult or elderly patient’s and family’s diversity; preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights
- Assists with, coordinates, or provides direct patient care to the sick and/or injured within the ER under the direction of the RN and the Emergency Room physician. All within the scope of defined practice
- Evaluates, records and communicates to the proper member of the health care team the patient’s physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and economic needs
- Administers medications and initiate IVs as directed by the physician and allowed by licensure and Nurse Practice Act
- Documents and reports results/effectiveness of interventions and reports findings to ER charge nurse and physician.
- Acts as liaison between patient, family, physician, hospital personnel, and community agencies
- Reports patient condition to physician and RN throughout and at completion of each shift
- Performs the nursing procedures required for the physical and emotional comfort and safety of the patient
- Performs therapeutic measures prescribed and delegated by Medical Staff
- Offers emotional support to the patient’s family as needed
- Expresses interest in patients’ progress, and explains procedures and treatments ordered
- Learns to appropriately perform treatments and procedures and utilize all processes required to manage patients in the ED (registration, orders, P&P, EMR, use of equipment)

- Displays professional judgment and sound mental attitude
- Assists in maintaining a comfortable, orderly, safe and clean environment for patients, visitors and co-workers
- Conducts himself or herself at all times in a professional manner so as to reflect positively on the profession and the hospital
- Exhibits sound judgment in all aspects of work
Education:
- Is familiar with ED policies and procedures
- Assists in patient education including the promotion of physical and mental health
- Assists with the teaching and supervision of students in the ED
- Continues formal or informal self-education, participates in in-service programs and applicable learning experiences provided by the hospital and required for licensure and specified in the job description
- Displays a working knowledge of equipment used in the care of patients
Other:
- Maintains a good public image of the unit, and the hospital as a whole, when dealing with customers, both internal and external
- Practices good personal health habits
- Performs related duties as required
Essential skills and experience:
