MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST - Laboratory

Full Time - up to  $72,758 per year

Position summary: Performs various chemical, microscopic, serological, hematological, and microbiological laboratory tests to obtain data used in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. Technologist will make independent decisions concerning the quality of laboratory results. Technologist will use and maintain automated and manual instruments and must continually monitor the quality of the results obtained. Technologist will write and maintain procedure manuals. Technologist will comply with clinical and patient care regulations. Technologist will also fulfill the duties outlined in the phlebotomist/secretary job description.

General purpose: Customer relations; quality testing; data management

 Role qualifications:

Education: Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology

     

Must possess the ability to work well with others and the desire to be of service

Must demonstrate the highest degree of integrity, honesty, confidentiality, and responsibility

Must demonstrate excellent analytical judgment and the ability to work under stress while maintaining manual dexterity and attention to detail

Must be able to prioritize the workload

Accurate and precise laboratory results require neatness, a high degree of persistence, and a capacity for patient, thorough effort.

           

Position responsibilities:

  • Must correctly collect, label, process and store clinical specimens
  • Must correctly implement all laboratory procedures
  • Must possess skills necessary for performing each test method and for proper instrument use
  • Must perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration procedures related to each test performed
  • Must have a working knowledge of reagent stability and storage
  • Must demonstrate the skills required to implement quality control and assessment policies and procedures
  • Must demonstrate the skills required to assess and verify the validity of patient test results through the evaluation of quality control values before reporting patient test results
  • Must be aware of and understand the factors that influence test results
  • Will perform tests in the areas of chemistry, hematology, serology, coagulation, urinalysis and  transfusion services to include type, antibody screen, and crossmatch
  • Will write and maintain procedures
  • Will maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Will manage supplies 
  • Orient new employees and train students
  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described above
