Liver Elastography Ultrasound

This ultrasound is used to measure the "stiffness" of the liver. Above normal stiffness of the liver is a sign of scar tissue (fibrosis) caused by liver disease. Liver fibrosis happens when certain diseases damage the liver over time. As fibrosis develops, scar tissue replaces the healthy liver cells and precents your liver from working normally.

Conditions that commonly cause liver fibrosis are:

  • Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
  • Alcohol use disorder
  • Hepatitis C
  • Hepatitis B

The Liver Elastography Ultrasound does require a physcians order.
